Cricket + Entertainment = IPL T20
Yes, perhaps that's the best and the most easy way you can describe IPL T20 brought to you by BCCI (Board of Cricket Control in India).
Modeled on the format of English Premier League for football/soccer the event seems to be one of the best entertainers in the history of cricket, short matches of just 20 overs filled with high drama and excitement in a T20 game where all the batsmen go for the slog right from the word go is going to be pure entertainment(cricketainment to be more precise) as we saw in T20 World Cup 2008 won by India.
T20, this new baby of cricket is already calling on the shots being a massive hit and perhaps one of the most popular cricketing events, IPL T20 is now going to take it a bit further at a semi-domestic level in India.
There will be 8 teams(Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, Deccan Chargers, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians) in all representing each Indian city in the IPL T20.
As per the revenue model goes BCCI has wisely tried mixing cricket and bollywood by involving bollywood super star Shahrukh Khan who himself owns Kolkata Knight Riders and seems to be very passionate about the game.
Bollywood actress Preity Zinta also owns a Kings XI Punjab team, while Reliance owned Mumbai Indian have roped in Hritish Rohan another bollywood super star as their team mascot, perhaps to counter Kolkata Knight Riders bollywood star power of Shahrukh Khan.
So virtually it stands as Sachin Tendulkar versus Saurov Ganguly on the cricketing field and Hritik Rohsan versus Shahrukh Khan on the bollywood marketing front.
As well know cricket and bollywood are some of the very few things that bind India together regardless of boundries, religion, cast or stature.
May it be Shahrukh Khan famously known as King Khan of bollywood or Sachin Tendulkar called the cricketing god, master blaster or living legend of cricket or Saurov Ganguly they all have huge fan followings.
To add more spice there are other international players like Shane Warne, Andrew Symond, Adam Gilcrist, Shoaib Akhtar, Sanath Jaysurya and many more which despite being foreign player have a huge fan followings and admirers in this cricket cray nation. These guys are themselves capable of hitting the newspaper front-page headlines, whether be it by their on field exploits or by controversies (racism, SMS, etc) lets not get into that :).
Having city based teams like Mumbai Indians (Mumbai), Delhi Dare Devils(Delhi) will help a lots as they themselves will attract loyal fans following from the city itself. Well being from Mumbai I myself be supporting Mumbai Indians being a die-heart Mumbaity.
As we talk about fan following and love for the game called 'Cricket' in this part of the world there's going to be huge money involved in advertisements as millions of eyes will be glued to the television sets which will attract more advertisements and definitely means more money, the telecast rights for the tournament were been bagged by Sony Entertainment Television(India) at whooping amount which itself gives an example on how much even the media industry is banking on IPL T20.
BCCI has market the IPL T20 in the best possible way they could have ever done it; also many of the crucial IPL T20 matches are been scheduled mainly on weekends to attract more crowd to the stadiums.
Just got to hear the the main on-air IPL promo called "Cricket Ka Mahayudh" and it sounds simply awesome and beautifully.
Kolkata, Deccan Chargers, Bangalore, Mumbai Indian teams already have their own music and on-air promos trying to attract more fan following for their respective teams.
Fasten your seat belts and lets get ready for some Cricket Entertainment!
I am Mumbai Indian. " Duniya Hila Denge ! "
